Let;s Go Crazy And Sketch The Lobby
Sketching the lobby

After twelve years of experioence in media: commercial, institutiotional and governmental paper press as well as trade magazines in the Netherlands, EU, United Kingdom and United States I felt lucky to have illustrated much about innovation, new energy, and filosophy as well as gay related themes during my busy career with daily deadlines.

Paper press and the budgets of traditional titles allowed for less briefings and having made only digital illustrations in the early tens I saw that with outsourcing photography and illustration abroad
A clear choice: hand made

Paper press and the budgets of traditional titles allowed for less briefings and having made only digital illustrations in the early tens I saw that with outsourcing photography and illustration abroad I could not compete anymore with the amount of generic images that became available.

I had not been drawing for over a decade and the sketches I made before safely returning to the screen and Wacom tablet were often just a scribble to define the shapes and forms roughly. At this moment, image makers and creatives are reinventing themselves and with the rise in quality of cameras and the overdose of generic audiovisual content, as well as every individual making their opwn content I decided to get out of my comfort zone and take a pencil and a piece of per. Drzwing a straight line was frightening, let alone a pencil drawing that had any content or quality. I spent a month or two drawing street scenes in Amsgterdam and with every sketch I learned something new. I reappreciated the textures of paper and the layering and tactile qualities that hand made 2d work on paper and cardboard had to offer.
